Explaining Art
Carol Fox, Manistee Art Institute's Picture Person, explains Gauguin's painting "Woman With A Mango"  to Nikki Haik, a fourth grader at Madison Elementary School.  Fox visited Julie Johnson's art classes to explain Gauguin's life in the tropics and inspire a paper flower project.  The student's flowers will be used as decoration for their school carnival.

MAI’s Picture Person program is underway for the 1999/2000 academic school year. This program, being conducted by several extremely qualified volunteers with little fanfare, is one of MAI's most rewarding and worthwhile activities. Students are given presentations on art works created by famed artists and participate in a hands-on project related to the painting.

Art used during the sessions include "The Boats at Argenteuil" by Claude Monet, "Nightwatch" by Rembrandt, "The Harvesters" by Bruegal and Gauguin's "Woman with a Mango".
